Your Lavender Life Part II: Secrets in the Woodwork

6:00 pm, Thursday 23rd July 2026

Location: The Ledward Centre

Tickets: Free, Booking Required.

Nu McAdam (he/they) & Suchi Chatterjee (she/they) present to you ‘Your Lavender Life Part II: Secrets in the Woodwork’

How do we tell and record our stories and our secrets?

Jane Traies (she/her) local writer, researcher, storyteller, film maker, and oral historian has been recording the lives of queer people, uncovering and documenting untold stories.
In this sessions Jane will teach us about the fundamentals of Oral History, how to record it, ask the questions, get consent, and navigate conversations about lives that may have remained secret for a long time.

Jane will then be interviewing Suchi Chatterjee and talking about her own Lavender Life, collected histories, archiving and the secrets that Brighton and Suchi has yet to reveal!

The session will conclude with a practical workshop, where you will have the opportunity to learn interviewing and recording skills, and  collect some of your own memories working in pairs under Jane's guidance.

We encourage you to bring a story to contribute to what would be your Lavender Museum. This could include:

Memories
Something physical or digital
A photo
A formative TV Programme or show

Access

We try and make sure there are as few barriers to people joining our events as possible. We can pay for participants to take taxis to/from events for reasons such as disability, health conditions, wellbeing and personal safety if it means they can come along and would not otherwise be able to. Please be aware that we have a limited budget for this so only request this if you need it. We would ask you to book and pay for your taxi/s and  keep the receipt/s. We can then reimburse you if you fill in a short form, which we will send to those who have requested taxi expenses to be covered.

We are using a step-free venue. If you have any access requirements, please let us know in advance by emailing bianca@marlboroughproductions.org.uk

Queer Heritage South is a programme powered by Marlborough Productions. Made possible thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
