Make, Discuss, Preserve: QTIBPoC Brighton

6:15 pm, Thursday 18th June 2026

Location: The Ledward Centre

Tickets: Free, booking essential

Join us for this Radical Rhizomes and Queer Heritage South collaboration - a community-driven, informal and social event where we come together as members of Brighton’s QTIBPoC community to converse, reflect and create.

This session is open to all QTIBPoC, whether you consider yourself creative or you don’t, we want to hear your stories, words, and thoughts about being a queer person of colour in Brighton.

Facilitated by Laura Edmans and Erin James, and with several creative materials and prompts available, we invite you to contribute as much or as little as you want. Whatever is gathered during this discussion and workshop will form the start of a creative, archival pamphlet that not only documents our existence but actively celebrates it. We hope this workshop can serve as a social healing space for us to gather and reflect, so come one, come all.

Examples of things we could discuss, contribute or make during the session include:

  • Thoughts on QTIBPoC life in Brighton - past, present and future
  • Interviews
  • Artwork - illustration, collage, doodles, graphics
  • Photos - of people, objects, places
  • Poetry/prose,
  • Quotes - from RR members, well known QTIBPoC figures, academics, artists
  • Essays/life writing,
  • Screenshots/memes
  • Reviews - of music, theatre, films that have shaped your QTIBPoC existence
  • Recommendations
  • Profiles - of Brighton based QTIBPoC, or inspirational figures
  • Recipes

Access
We try and make sure there are as few barriers to people joining our events as possible.
The Ledward Centre is a wheelchair accessible venue with a wheelchair accessible toilet.
If you have any other access requirements, please let us know in advance by emailing radicalrhizomes@gmail.com

Transport
We can pay for Radical Rhizomes members' transport to/from events from within Brighton and Hove for reasons such as disability, health conditions, wellbeing and personal safety if it means they can come along and would not otherwise be able to. Please book a transport reimbursement ticket in addition to your main ticket if you require this, but please be aware that we have a limited budget for this so only do so if you need it. We would ask you to book and pay for your travel and keep the receipt/s. We can then reimburse you if you fill in a short form which we will send to those who have requested transport 'tickets'.

If you are coming from outside of Brighton and Hove please book a transport reimbursement ticket and we will be in touch to liaise with you what we might be able to cover.
In the interests of the environment we may ask you to share taxis, and the transport tickets will end at midday on the day of an event so that we can put you in touch.

Buddy system
We have a buddy system to help welcome new members into Radical Rhizomes events. If this is your first Rhizomes event and/or you are feeling nervous about coming along and meeting people, or you would like a buddy to travel with to the event you can book an 'I'd love to be paired with a buddy' 'ticket' in additional to your regular ticket.

If you feel more comfortable in the group and able to offer yourself as a buddy you can book an 'I can be a buddy...' 'ticket' in addition to your regular ticket. .

Food
We will be enjoying a delicious vegan meal and there will be gluten free options. Please get in touch if you have any dietary requirements.
